It's Wednesday and time to set off again. And everyone else seems to be thinking the same with boats passing up and down.
At least it wasn't raining when we set off. Not when we set off but just round the corner and it started to drizzle. I suppose it wasn't too bad but it was raining.
Our first challenge of the day was the Watford flight of locks. Shouldn't have worried about it as there were many volunteers to help out.
Got through the first two locks OK but then had to wait for a couple of boats to come down the main flight.
Then away we go. Remembering the old rhyme: Red before White you're alright, White before Red you're dead. It's not quite that dramatic but, basically, open the the Red paddle first to take water from the lock above into a side pound and then open the White paddle to balance the water in both locks.
And here you can see two of these side pounds. They are used to save water being lost as boats go up and down the staircase locks.
After that it was a push on to Crick. But first, Crick Tunnel. Normally this is termed a 'wet' tunnel. But today it was marginally drier than outside on the cut!
Arrived at Crick and moored just before the road bridge.
Stoke up the fire again, batten the hatches and enjoy a decent bit of telly. We love Cornwall and enjoyed watching Michael Portillo travelling around the county, also, we're hooked on Professor T. After that out with a good old fashioned book, something where you can lick your fingers to turn pages, flick backwards and forwards at will without losing your place. Something where: 'Who's torn out 3 pages?' Well, we did borrow it from the Marina library after all and it didn't actually spoil the plot.
Ah well, off to bed and see what tomorrow holds for us.
