Set off fairly promptly this morning to avoid the boats coming up to queue for the lock. I think that I said before that the locks close between 3pm and 9:30am to save water.
We seem to have seen more working boats on the canal this year which is a good sign really.
Looks as if Cropredy Marina are doing well with their plans to expand the site. Hope they have enough water to fill it up.
The canal on this stretch is very low at the moment and you have to take care not to run aground.
Just another view of the stunning countryside around here.
A reminder of what real life is like - going under the M40 just outside Banbury.
A rare picture of the Mate doing some work for a change. His turn to work the locks. Mainly because his legs are longer than the captain's (not as pretty though) (mind you, did win the 6 best legs competition at the Flower Show once) and, with the double gates at the bottom of the lock, he can step across the gap, opening and closing the gates by himself.
We are well into Rosie & Jim territory now passing the home of Dink & Malc. They are a lovely couple who have their pictures on the side of the house and I'm sure I take a photo every time we pass.
I had to take a photo here because this is the first time I have seen the chandlery open. Will we ever see it like it again?
Into Banbury itself and a look at some of the buildings.
Pretty isn't it?
Had a birthday lunch at Pizza Calzone. Forgot to take a photo so I rebuilt my plate having eaten half of what was there in the first place. In all we spent 2 hours over lunch and it was well worth it.
Complimentary glasses of Limoncello and a heart shaped candle to finish off the meal.
The birthday girl. Yesterday, that is (or was)
