Forgot to show you a picture of the sunset last night.
Anyway, did I say that it is Brigid's birthday today? Birthday breakfast of toast and jam, Greek yogurt and runny honey. Not much different to usual really, just accompanied by bad renditions of 'happy birthday to you.'
Set off at the wrong time just after a hire boat and a second one poodled past. All well and good but the hire boat didn't, unusually, speed up after that. They did, however, pull into the side after a mile or two to let us both past.
Motored on to Fenny Compton where we took on water. A nice fast fill for a change. Some places you can sit for half an hour while the water trickles out but not today.
Don't know why but I love this bridge. I've probably taken a photo every time we come this way.
Here we are entering Fenny Compton Tunnel.
Another view of the tunnel looking backwards. What tunnel, you say, it's not even dark! Ah well, that's because after they built the tunnel, they took the top off.
When built, the tunnel was one of the 20 longest tunnels on the canal system. However, the canal company bought the land over the tunnel and, piece by piece, opened it up.
Guess what, it's raining again and here we are approaching the top of Claydon locks.
This is where the 2nd part of the slow day comes in. Because of water shortages the Canal & River Trust are working on a one up, one down basis as well as closing the locks at 3pm and opening at 10am each morning. Consequently there was a queue again, there being more boats wanting to go down than were coming up.
Still, we met a lot of nice people, socially distancing, of course, and chatted our way through the five locks. Still took a long time.
Moored after the last lock and sat and had tea in the sun.
Just a glimpse of the knitting wool bowl that I got as a birthday present for the captain. Did I tell you it's her birthday today?
