Rowbarge and back

Looked up the C&RT website this morning, to check on closures & restrictions, and discovered that the Woolhampton swing bridge broke down on Friday and the canal is closed until further notice. Spoke to a lady on the phone who said that they had had no further update on the situation.

So we decided to stay where we were in the middle of nowhere.

Around midday we noticed boats coming through and one boater said the bridge was OK and working on Sunday. Checked the website - canal still closed.

Thought we would have a walk of just over a mile to see for ourselves what was going on.

Some very pretty Mallow type of plant on the edge of the path.

Had a lovely walk, chatted with other walkers and cyclists and arrived at the bridge to find it in full working order.

Checked the website - canal still closed.

We just happened to be at the Rowbarge and thought it would be rude not to pop in again after the excellent meal we had there before. Had, for us, a light lunch, watching boat after boat negotiating the 'non-working' bridge.

Checked the website - canal still closed.

Had another lovely walk back to the boat and Brigid spent the afternoon watching Wimbledon.

I'm sure you can see why we don't want to move. Quiet, peaceful and sunny.
