Dorchester Day

Have just moved round the corner from Shillingford to Dorchester where the river Thame meets the river Thames.

Walking across to Dorchester we passed the Dyke Hills, an Iron Age fortified settlement.

Bindweed, (Convolvulus arvensis) has such a pretty flower - called a weed but just a flower in the wrong place.

Some field poppies at the edge of the path.

And here we are entering Dorchester, once the cathedral city of Mercia.

Life has taken a slower pace in Dorchester but I think Brigid will have a long wait for this coach to get going.

Discovered Lilly's tearoom for lunch today. Had a lovely chicken and avocado sandwich and, for me, a flat white.

We both enjoyed a sit down in this cozy old fashioned, yet modern, tearoom.

Hollyhock by the front door.

And what a house opposite the village memorial.

Who remembers this? A stamp machine, regrettably no longer in use.

And so, into Dorchester Abbey.

Unlike Bradwell, their glass doors are on the inside.

And look at that flower arrangement round the door.

And, lastly, the inside of the Abbey.

After a very enjoyable day we returned to the boat and just as I was setting up the TV, calls from a passing boat 'Laurie'. What!? Who knows us out here? Only Roger from church - small world ain't it?
