I was asked if I would like to call some changes (conduct) for them. I accepted their invitation and luckily I asked which way they called their changes - the answer was 'up.' Now Bradwell call 'down.' Is there any difference, you ask. Well, yes. If you've got three bells ringing 1, 2, 3, and you want 2 & 3 to change places then, calling up you would say 2 to 3, meaning 2 follow 3. Calling down you would say 3 to 1, meaning 3 follow 1. With calling up 3 bell isn't told what to do and in calling down, 2 bell isn't told what to do. Clear? It's quite straightforward when written down but when you're actually ringing and you're calling for 6 bells, it sometimes gets a little muddled. Never mind, I managed to get away with it and we made a nice noise. And the bells ring easily and sound good.
The church service was a communion service followed by coffee & cakes. Everyone was very welcoming and we ended up being the last to leave.
When we did, it was straight over the road to the Mason's Arms for a light lunch. After that, back to the boat for an afternoon of sunshine and tennis.
