On our way to Gargrave

We watched the weather forecast closely today because when we woke up it was raining quite heavily. It was also very windy. The forecast suggested that after 10 o'clock the rain would ease off. True enough, come 10 o'clock we checked the weather radar and there looked to be a gap in the rain clouds so, off we set. Well, false start first time round as the wind was so strong that we couldn't get out from the bank. Brigid pushed the front of the boat out, I shouted words of encouragement and with engine running flat out we were away. Off we set on the 2½ miles to Gargrave. The only problem was that there were 9 locks to negotiate. Luckily, we managed to team up with a hire boat which made life much easier.

Look at the picture closely and you'll see that this is the waterways equivalent of a car wash. So much water was pouring out of the brickwork that the boat had a good shower as we sank lower down the lock.

True to form, after about 3 hours we arrived at Gargrave just before the heavens opened again. We don't mind the rain but it's always preferable to be inside watching the tennis when it does come along.

Tonight we are cooking on board and have a couple of Rib Eye Steaks for supper. Yummy!
