A day off? Hardly!

Thursday was meant to be a walking day but instead ended up as a working day. When we woke up, the hills were shrouded with clouds and rain had set in for the day.

Never mind, out came the washing machine and Brigid got to work on the backlog.

I started off by checking out all the batteries - 3 leisure & 1 starter - making sure that the electrolyte levels were OK and that they were all holding charge. After that, top up the engine oil and then, a job I've been putting off for ages, fitting lengths of timber around the starter battery so that it can't move or tip over. This is a requirement for the boat safety certificate even though I've never known this battery to move at all. The reason it's been put off is because the starter battery is only accessible through the bottom of a cupboard in the engine room and you are virtually working upside down in a very confined space. Luckily, the rain stopped long enough for me to set up my work table on the bank and cut the lengths required. Phew, all done, cupboard reinstated and refilled. A good job done but nothing to see for it at the end of the day.

Meanwhile, Brigid had swept out the inside of the boat and decided to clean one of the mats by throwing it in the canal. Not sure why but we never did get it back. I prodded around with the boat hook, located it but couldn't find a way of fishing it out. Luckily it was an old one and the fish have now got somewhere to wipe their fins!

Believe it or not we had a good day and finished off with sausages in cider for supper. This was followed with a game of Lexicon and then to bed.

Hoping for better weather tomorrow.
