There's a leak in Leek

On Thursday we made our way back along the Caldon Canal but then turned off along the Leek Branch.

Here we are leaving Froghall, once again in the sun.

Coming up through the locks just before turning onto the Leek Branch. We had a short wait at these locks (3 in all) because the middle pound was almost empty.

Blue skies and hardly a cloud in sight. Not what was forecast.

The Leek Branch crosses over the main canal and we are now looking down on the way we have just come - if you follow what I mean!

I stopped the boat in the middle of the aqueduct so that Brigid could jump off both sides to take the pictures.

Here's looking the other way towards the 3 locks.

This is a gem of a canal but it is not well publicised and, consequently, not too busy.

This is our mooring for the next 2 or 3 days just over a mile from Leek town centre and look, the sun's still shining.

The leak at Leek is referring to the sky, the forecast for Friday & Saturday being rain and high winds. Well, on Friday, we made our way to Morrisons and stacked up on provisions. Our shopping bag on wheels came in handy and it was stuffed full of goodies. Luckily we made this trip in between showers.

In the evening, once again a clear sky.

On Saturday we walked into the town where there was a wonderful outdoor market, a Victorian indoor market, covered arcades and some amazing shops, not all of them high street chains, a town crier and Morris dancers. We ended up buying walking boots and wellies, not what we set out to buy in the first place. On the way back to the boat, not only did the sky leak, it overflowed. It was only 5 minutes but we got soaked everywhere that wasn't covered by our waterproofs. 5 minutes after that and the sun was shining again. The wind is quite strong but we are cosy enough indoors. The forecast isn't that good for the next few days but we may try to resume our journey southward to see if we can duck below all the low pressure fronts that are sweeping in toward the UK.
