Macclesfield and beyond

Thursday and we are pressing further southward. Wet, cold and windy! The canal is pleasant but it would look so much better with some sun.

We passed through Higher Poynton and Fourend-Lanes and Bollington.

This is Clarence Mill, once again converted into small business units.

The heron down here don't fly away as quickly as in other parts. Perhaps it's because there are many more hire boats around. We've seen more boats today than in all our time on the Huddersfield Narrow.

Approaching another snake bridge.

This is the old Hovis flour mill in Macclesfield, now up-market apartments. Did you know that the word Hovis is derived from the Latin 'hominisunvis' meaning 'power to the man'.

Abutments along the canalside.

Some closeups of a snake bridge.

For the night we stopped in the middle of the countryside near to Lyme Green.
