I'm a lumberjack and I'm OK

Sunday and we are on the move again - or are we? Just as we were about to cast off a walker told us that a tree had come down across the canal a little way past the tunnel. At first we thought that we would walk along the canal and see what the damage was but after a little while, with the clouds gathering, we turned back and went by boat instead. Luckily we did because the clouds started leaking again and on the boat we could keep partly dry.

Well, we got past the tunnel, a long way past the tunnel (I forgot that for a real walker a little way is probably half a mile or more) and there it was.

So, out with my Dots & Mellons hand saw and, trying not to fall in the canal, I set to work.

Brigid meanwhile took pictures of the scenery.

A passing walker was very helpful pulling bits out of the water as I cut them off.

After about 15 minutes I had cleared enough of a path for the boat to squeeze through. The rest will need to be cleared up by C&RT or a local farmer.

We then retraced our steps along the Caldon Canal, through 5 locks and moored up near Baddeley Green. One good thing today was that there were more people around on their boats and we had help through nearly all the locks.

Here's a mini panorama of our mooring. Reasonably quiet and roast lamb to look forward to tonight.

And as a last treat, a picture of yesterday's Morris dancers.
