Steam trains & cream teas

Wednesday evening and we are at Froghall, the end of the Caldon Canal.

For 3 days now the weather has been great. At last, 3 days of summer!

This is the Black Lion at Consall. There is an iconic jigsaw with this pub, a steam train and a canal boat in front. The unique thing about this pub is that there is no road access for deliveries. Supplies have to be wheeled across a canal bridge and railway crossing. Luckily the trains don't run that often - this week it's Wednesday, Saturday & Sunday with only 5 or 6 trains running. This Saturday they have a Gin train running where you can try out various gins or ciders - sounds good to me!

This is the station at Consall overhanging the canal.

Look, it's really sunny today! This stretch of the canal is called 'Little Switzerland', a name well deserved.

Lunch on the towpath at Froghall.

Another steam train for me to drool over. I don't know what it is about steam trains that always gets me excited.

And then, cream teas sitting outside the station buffet.

A well cared for station. I think that if I lived near here I would probably be down here every weekend pushing a wheelbarrow up and down the platform.

BBQ tonight - let's see if I can do better than last time.
