We're now in a caravan!

Monday 7th. No rush for us today as both our hosts have gone to work and left us to lock up the house. Only one problem, when we went to open the key safe, the number didn't work. Our hosts had changed the number over the weekend and hadn't told us. Managed to get round that and then set off for Whakatane. Not too long a drive today. Some stunning views on the way across.

We saw some black swans.

And a seagull!

When we arrived at Whakatane we went straight to the beach and had a good paddle walk along the shoreline.

And then off to our next B&B in a caravan.

We certainly have experienced some different styles of accommodation this holiday. Jacquie, our next host, welcomed us with a bowl of mixed fruits, including fresh strawberries, and said that she had some fresh Paua if we would like to join her for supper. Well, we jumped at the idea. Paua is a form of sea snail otherwise known as abalone in the USA. So we had an enjoyable evening chatting about our adventures so far and finding out what we could do in Whakatane.

A word of warning - if any of you come to NZ, be careful about your pronunciation. In Maori, Wh is pronounced F. So the name sounds like Fakatane. Say it with the wrong accent and you could get a black eye. Jacquie definitely pronounced her W but acknowledged that it should be F. Ah well, better safe than sorry. Encountered another problem though, her Internet wasn't working. Same old story, OK when she went out, not working when she came back. Engineer has promised to look into it tomorrow.
