Off to Red Beach

Friday 11th. Today we have a fair bit of driving to do because we are off to Red Beach, the other side of Auckland. In theory that shouldn't take too long but everyone has warned us about the rush hour traffic in Auckland. They've all said either go very early or very late. Anyway, we set off from Whitianga going north around the headland. This makes for a longer journey but it is a coast road with more views.

As you can probably see, the day is overcast and cloudy down here, so, not the best of viewing days but not so bad for driving.

We still managed to stop and see some lovely beaches on the way.

This was the view from a lookout point and you should be able to see Auckland on a clear day. Not today.

Even with cloud cover the views are still spectacular.

Here we are on another beach.

Look at how the tide has eroded away the rocks.

Having said to our next host that we would arrive at 8 o'clock, we managed to get through Auckland in 1 1/2 hours - not bad, so I'm told. So, now we were early. Never mind, we drove around the peninsula, looking at Army Bay on the way and then found a Southern Kitchen for supper. We had jambalaya and seafood gumbo, both of which went down a treat. After that we made our way to our next house.

Again, Wow! We had virtually all of the ground floor to call our own, including two cats (which we were told not to let in the bedroom). It's a pity we're only staying here one night.
