Sunday 9th September. Brigid’s birthday. Got it right, I think! Birthday card, presents, cup of tea in bed. Fired up the generator and made toast for breakfast. And then we set off again. The Macclesfield canal is quite lovely but a bit of a rusty muddy colour.
There are many stone bridges
and some of these are snake bridges made so that the horses towing the barges could cross over the canal without having the tow rope unhooked.
There are also some beautiful aqueducts and it is quite surreal sailing along above a road.
In the evening we moored at the foot of Bosley locks.
On the Macclesfield Canal there are only 12 locks and they are all in one place. Not a good idea to attempt them late in the day – especially if it’s your birthday. See, I do look after Brigid, I wanted her to have a good night’s rest before working all those locks. I got exhausted just looking at them.
Ah well, a good night’s sleep and then ‘up and at ‘em’.
