Day 8 – Wednesday 5th September. Today was a
record day – 14 miles travelled. After setting off from Alrewas we passed
through Fradley Junction,
a chocolate box canal side area with pub, shop and
café. Also packed out with gongoozlers – folk who want to have a good day out
watching all the boaters get it wrong! I let Brigid steer the boat whilst I
manfully chatted to all the bystanders and opened the gates.
Wish I’d done it
the other way round since they were all heavy! Fradley once again boasts a
favourite pub of ours, The Swan, but no stopping today, on we went.
Could have
stopped to buy some Welsh cheese from the Cheese Boat but it looked as if it
was closed.
Can’t complain, wall-to-wall sunshine.
Passing through Armitage
what should we see but thousands of toilets at the canal side.
Well, the name
of the place says it all. On through
Rugeley to end the day at Great Haywood Junction.
