Day 6 – Monday 3rd September. Today we covered
almost eight miles and all of it in glorious sunshine.
We came through two
locks, both of them wide and deep but luckily managed to team up with another
boat which tends to make the going easier. Two boats side by side in a wide
lock stops everything banging about all over the place. Mind you, the other
boaters had only got their hire boat the day before and were worried about
everything. Brigid and I managed a bit of tuition and I even mended their
steering when the fender at the back caught up on one of the gates, broke off
and jammed the tiller. We have ended up in Willington moored right outside the
Green Dragon
where we had a bite of lunch.
There are three pubs in Willington, a
Co-op, Post Office and an old fashioned sweet shop. Can’t be bad. Spent the
afternoon cleaning the boat, painting the chimney and preparing other bits
ready for painting. This evening we are looking forward to a chicken risotto –
can’t wait – but it does mean that I will be cooking it, so, I’d better stop
writing and get on with it.
