Tuesday 13th

Last evening I spent some time trying to clean the roof only to find this morning even more leaves and seeds up there. I slopped buckets of water all over the place, much of which managed to find its way in through the air vents. So, the boat had a good wash inside and out.

The rhododendron seem to be following us around. I'm sure there's a reason but they are all the same colour. Probably to do with the soil acidity.

Arrived at Woodend Lock for our first queue of the holiday. Three boats in front.

And two behind.

Grrr! Work on HS2. Can't see that much but it's there.

There have been several barges shunting up and down the canal. This could be one of them filled with hardcore for a new footpath.

Surprisingly, first lock at Fradley and no queue. Where did they all get to?

It's lovely the little strips of woodland alongside the canal. Especially today when it's hotter than ever, a little shade doesn't go amiss.

Oh no! HS2 again.

Got to King's Orchard Marina to find a 70' boat broadside across the canal. Going backwards and forwards like a steam piston but not getting far. On one of his forward sessions he indicated for me to go through, which was good of him. His wife, who was at the front of the boat, indicated by hand signals that they were trying to turn round. Ah well, good luck to that.

We got as far as Huddlesford Junction and stopped for lunch at the Plough.

Look hard, that's Polgara in the distance. Back aboard for a cuppa and siesta out of the sun.

But then we decided to walk into Whittington to walk off the lunch.

And it was well worth it. We took a path over the top of the hill from where we could see Litchfield on one side.

And Whittington on the other.

The pictures (again) do not do it justice.

And on the return, mother duck and her ducklings.
