Stratford or bust

The forecast said rain and we got rain.

Photo of the day, me all togged up for wet weather.

Even the captain has donned her waterproofs.

Thought it was a space invasion. No, only some drilling or piling machines peeking over the hedge.

And I thought it was my turn to steer the boat today.

Nope, looks like all these locks are mine.

Down she goes. Luckily there were some volunteers around to help out and many of the locks were set in our favour.

Look at that. A lock set right up against a bridge. So, what do they do? They bend the lock arm - and, believe me, they never do work properly. We had to wait for the crew from the boat following us to help open the blighter. Luckily, with two of us on it we got it open.

Here is the paddle just showing. That's some hunk of metal to be lifting especially when there is a lock full of water pressing against it. I know I said Stratford or bust but locks nearly did it for me. They are heavy and stiff. Mind you, it's a good workout and I am saving a fortune on gym fees!

Oh, and I forgot to say that the tunnels are low as well. We've had to lay the chimney down several times.

But, we've made it and we've got a mooring right in the centre of Stratford.

When we arrived we could hear drumming but didn't realise that it is something to do with a Hindu festival that's going on.

There were boat trips being arranged, food in the park, all very well organised but all very noisy. We loved it.

The Bard with his back to our boat.

The RSC theatre.

And the captain! Oi, oi! Turn my back and she's off with the statue. Back to the boat for a cup of tea I think. I ask you.
