Aqueduct heaven

A bit of a rest today, only 7 locks and 2 long pounds.

Now, what is that?

Not sure but it is something to do with the aqueduct at Yarningale. There are 3 aqueducts on the canal and we cross them all today. They are unusual as the towpath runs on a level with the bottom of the water tank, giving horses and pedestrians a duck's eye view of passing boats.

At least the captain looks pleased with herself.

One of the few gates with two paddles on the bottom gate.

The Stratford-on-Avon canal is very pretty but, as such, photos would be repetitive.

But, now and again, something breaks up all the greenery. Here at Wootton Wawen is the home of Anglo Welsh boats.

Also, home to the second of the aqueducts with this strange lifting gear at one end.

The aqueduct itself.

And the view of the road below.

And lastly the big daddy of them all - Edstone (or Bearley) Aqueduct - all of 200yds in length.

A few views.

Amazing.

Stopping for the night at Wilmcote but, before supper, a quick stroll around the village.

The most well-known building in the village - Mary Arden's Cottage. This was the home of Shakespeare's mother, and is a 15thC timbered farmhouse. Unfortunately it is closed to visitors at present but school visits can be arranged.

That's it for tonight, showers forecast for tomorrow. Have put the cap on the chimney just in case.
