Today, Monday, we have travelled just over 7 miles and worked 2 locks, all in sunny/overcast/blustery conditions. On with the raincoat or not? On with the hats or ... more likely off with this wind!
I love these moorings, they have half a dozen garden seats with barbecue stands by each one. Almost makes you want to stop there.
Oh, and Hack Green, the secret nuclear bunker! Now a visitor attraction complete with café.
In 1983 the facility was totally rebuilt at a cost in excess of £32m. Nine years later it was closed. If you can enlarge the picture above you can read all about it.
Just looking back at the boat we passed between the locks. The pound was low on water and everyone was taking it slowly.
Just approaching the iron aqueduct across the road into Nantwich.
Originally it was intended that the canal run from Hack Green across Dorfold Park. But the owner of the park refused to allow it and forced the company to build a long embankment right around the park which proved difficult and costly. It kept collapsing. Now where have I heard that before?
The far side of Nantwich, a wooden canal pony.
We moored for lunch just before Hurleston Junction, the turn off to Llangollen. We're the 5th boat along from this end.
No, we're not going to Llangollen just yet but we did walk up the first 4 locks just to have a look at the view.
Good enough for a picture.
And a quick look at the reservoir which supplies South Cheshire's water.
The captain didn't want to walk round the reservoir so I said 'How about we walk to Snugbury?'
Snugburys make delicious ice cream, the only drawback being that we had to walk a short distance along the A51. Could have done without that!
Now the captain doesn't eat ice cream so this was really a treat for me. I did buy her a cup of tea to make up for it.
And then back to the boat to catch up on emails and church work. We're now staying here for the night.
