Today, or it could even have been yesterday, we flew from Singapore to Christchurch, a flight that lasted just over 9 hours. But, we took off at 19:50 and landed 10:40 and that's something like 14 hours! Either I've time travelled again or I've lost some hours somewhere!
Now I'm even more confused because Brigid reckons that I've gained the hours I thought I'd lost!
I can now see why I was made redundant from accountancy!
Anyway, we landed at Christchurch to find it warmer than Singapore - 30 deg. Then straight through Customs, no queuing and off to the car hire base. Picked up our Ford Focus and, with only one wrong turn, made our way to Merrivale Manor Motel, the main house being a restored 19th century building. Unknown to me we had booked the spa room which, surprisingly enough, has a gigantic spa bath with wooshy bits and swirly bits - it's bigger than our dining room! (Laurie’s usual embellishment - Ed). After a terrific welcome from the owners, Warren & Gwyneth, a refreshing shower and a quick snooze we walked toward the city centre and the botanical gardens. I’m sorry to admit that the sun and lack of sleep on my part led to an early retreat back to the motel.
We managed to recoup our energy enough to venture out to the Brewer’s Arms for one of the best Canterbury lamb and mixed grill dishes we have ever had. I was slightly taken aback when they brought uncooked meat to the table and left us to cook it! I thought that was their job!
I didn't really mind the cooking but I was glad they didn't insist on the washing up as well.
Enough for tonight, got to make our way back for yet more sleep!
